Introduction

The center’s primary responsibility is technology transfer, and it also promotes and facilitates scientific research to evaluate the economic, social, environmental, and financial impacts of projects and public policies for all stakeholders over their lifetime. Its range of services includes developing business plans, assisting with business establishment, and providing support for the proposal and article writing.

Vision

To analyze the socio-economic aspects and impacts of transferred research outputs. The key function is to study, measure and monetize the economic, social, environmental and financial costs and benefits for all stakeholders, of a project or public policy over its lifetime

Mision

·     To support BNARI researchers to be involved more effectively in national and international projects and benefit from the related support and funding mechanisms by creating awareness and organizing info days, workshops and training activities.

·         To enhance university-industry collaboration.

·         To protect and manage the intellectual property rights resulting from R&D efforts of BNARI members and to create mechanisms for transferring IPs to industry which will result in creation of new goods and services for the benefit of the society.

·         To guide SNAS academicians and the student projects to establish their ventures.

·         To facilitate the transfer of BNARI created discoveries into new products and services for public use and benefits.

·         To promote regional economic growth and job creation.

·         To write grant winning proposals and development business plans.

·         To create (new) relationships with industry and to provide consultancy services support new start-up activity and entrepreneurship.

·         Evaluate commercial opportunities and market potential for new intellectual property.

·    Negotiates transactional agreements with outside parties, including universities, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies to ensure compliance with government statutes, regulations and NHIS policies and facilitates commercialization efforts to benefit public health.

·         Provides guidance to intramural and extramural scientists on all technology transfer matters.

·         Negotiates on co-development agreements including memorandum of understanding (MOU) and cooperative research and development agreement (CRADAs).

   

Achievements

Ø  The center championed and supervised all commercial farms of BNARI

Ø  Successfully produced and managed Fishery (catfish) project producing 8 tons of catfish for the commission

Ø  Production of BNARI Broiler and X-mas Broilers with almost zero mortality rate

Ø  Production of 2400 broilers in collaboration with JFAMCO

Ø  The center revamped and managed the GAEC Farmers Association and the GAEC/BNARI Ebusa System generating money for the commission

Ø  Piggery section revamped and poultry building renovated to host new birds

Ø  Presentations at media houses such as Unique FM breakfast show, Obuoba FM Akuafo mmo show, etc., to disseminate information about GAEC-BNARI to the general public

Ø  Assisted chiefs and the youth in Assin Asamankese to commence training in agribusiness in raising crops and animals for employment

Training/Consultancy

The Centre offers consultancies in its areas of specialty. It offers training in the following entrepreneur/agribusiness activities: Piggery production, Poultry production, Feed formulations, Catfish production, Mushroom production, etc.

Mandate

The core mandate of the Centre is to conduct socioeconomic and impacts of transferred research outputs; impact assessment of vegetable production and marketing systems in Ghana; and business management. It applies theories and techniques of social economics to study and analyze Human development conditions and variables contributing to economic development. The Centre also conduct research and advise on factors that impact social, and thus economic developments, such as the role of stakeholders in development, population growth, human resource development, and poverty.

    The center provides training opportunities for individuals interested in farm management, marketing, business development, and system thinking for business managers and data analysts. Moreover, it offers consultancy services and assists in the commercialization of farm animal produce and fruits and vegetables from other centers. Additionally, it oversees the management of the GAEC/BNARI farmers, flower growers, and other land users affiliated with the commission.
